The Advanced Transportation Technology Study Process
This study will take place from Fall 2023 through Summer 2024, and will include several tasks including the following:
- Identify and assess advanced roadside technologies that have the capacity to increase safety and compliance on Washington State’s toll roads and HOV lanes, and in construction zones.
- Provide supporting legal and financial analysis that supports future policy and funding choices by the Legislature regarding testing and implementation of such technologies.
Findings and recommendations will be shared with the Legislature in two phases in 2024:
- In January 2024 the Transportation Commission will provide the Legislature with an interim report that will, at a minimum, provide an initial assessment of the viability of deploying an advanced technology system into operation.
- By June 30, 2024, the Transportation Commission will provide the Legislature with a final report of findings and recommendations.
