The Commission has begun its process for adjusting toll rates for the SR 520 Bridge. This page provides information on why the changes are coming, the process for doing so, and what the proposed changes will be.
Additional information will be added throughout the process, so please check back for more details in the coming months.
Current Requirements
State law (RCW 47.56.850 & RCW 47.56.870) requires tolls rates on the SR 520 Bridge to maintain travel time, speed, and reliability on the corridor, and to generate the necessary revenue to meet financial obligations.
In December, the Office of the State Treasurer determined that the current toll rates on the SR 520 Bridge will not be sufficient to meet financial obligations beginning July 2025. Therefore, the WSTC must adjust toll rates this summer, in order to generate required revenues.
Overview of Toll Rate Proposal
Following extensive public input on two possible toll rate change options, the WSTC selected its toll rate proposal for the SR 520 Bridge at its May 15 meeting.
The toll rate proposal is as follows and would take effect on August 15, 2024:
- Tolls will increase by an average of 10% for the entire week, with variations by time of day and day of week.
- There will also be fewer rate variations throughout the week, resulting in six different prices instead of the existing eight.
