Welcome
This online open house is designed to share information on the toll rate and policy options under considered by the Washington State Transportation Commission (WSTC) and to gather your feedback ahead of WSTC decision making.
The Puget Sound Gateway Program in the central Puget Sound area between Seattle and Tacoma will improve regional freight movements and help reduce congestion by building connections to the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma from key distribution centers.
As part of the project, there will be tolled expressways on SR 509 and SR 167 to both manage traffic and help fund construction and ongoing maintenance of the roadways. Existing portions of SR 509 and SR 167 will continue to operate as they do today. Both expressways will use electronic tolling (no toll booths) to collect tolls, and drivers can pay with a Good To Go! account or will receive a bill in the mail after their trip. Tolling on the Expressways will be for all lanes in both directions. More information is available on the Puget Sound Gateway Program webpage.
Tolling on the first portion of the SR 509 Expressway is expected to begin in October 2025 and tolling on the SR 167 Expressway west of I-5 is expected to begin in December 2026. The Washington State Transportation Commission (WSTC) will set toll rates and policies for both facilities this summer.
SR 167 Expressway
The new tolled SR 167 Expressway will extend from N Meridian Ave. in Puyallup to I-5 in Fife and from I-5 to SR 509 near the Port of Tacoma.
