Public hearing on toll proposals also scheduled for July 21 hearing
OLYMPIA – National experts will discuss connected vehicle technology that allows vehicles to communicate with one another, traffic signals and nearby infrastructure to improve safety and mobility during the Washington State Transportation Commission’s virtual July 21-22 meeting. Commissioners will also hold a public hearing on two toll rate proposals.
The public is invited to attend the virtual meeting, which will take place on Zoom from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, and from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22. Registration for the Tuesday and Wednesday sessions is available on the commission’s website. The meeting will also be streamed on TVW.
Virtual public comment is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22. Written comments may be sent to transc@wstc.wa.gov.
Tuesday public hearing on toll proposals A public hearing on two toll rate proposals is scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21. Commissioners will review a proposal to revise various toll-related administrative fees and a second proposal to establish a low-income toll discount program for the SR 509 and 167 expressways.
Public comment will be accepted on both proposals during the hearing, after which commissioners are expected to vote on each proposal.

- Connected vehicle technology: A panel of national experts will share how transportation agencies and technology providers are creating a connected vehicle ecosystem to advance safety, mobility and other transportation goals.
- Emergency evacuation planning: An overview of how real-time traffic data and analytics are supporting emergency managers during natural disasters will be shared with commissioners.
- Urban freight: New research on warehouse locations and strategies to reduce the effects of e-commerce delivery traffic on communities will be presented.
- Ferry riders’ survey: Commissioners will hear the results from the latest survey of Washington State Ferries’ riders.
- Climate action plan: Representatives from the Washington state departments of Ecology and Commerce will give an update on the development of a Comprehensive Climate Action Plan and strategies to meet the state’s climate goals.
