SPOKANE – As part of its ongoing effort to engage communities and gather input on transportation across the state, the Washington State Transportation Commission is holding its July meeting in Spokane. Commissioners will hear from local and regional public officials, business leaders, and the public about the region’s transportation needs and challenges.

The public is invited to attend the meeting, which will take place on Wednesday, July 16, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., and on Thursday, July 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meeting is at Spokane City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Boulevard. Those wishing to attend virtually via Zoom may register for the Wednesday and Thursday sessions on the commission’s website. The meeting will also be streamed live on TVW.

Virtual and in-person public comment is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. on Thursday. Written comments can also be submitted via email to transc@wstc.wa.gov.

Meeting highlights include:

  • Spokane transportation priorities: Leaders from the city of Spokane will share an update on transportation and mobility projects that are planned or underway.
  • Key transit projects: Spokane Transit officials will discuss the role the agency is playing in the city’s pioneering efforts to bring homes and businesses closer to transit as well as the expansion of bus rapid transit.
  • Transportation and the economy: Leaders of area economic development agencies will discuss how the region’s transportation networks support business and economic growth
  • State’s long-range transportation plan: Commissioners will discuss the Washington Transportation Plan Vision 2050, the state’s 20-year transportation plan. The plan serves as a policy roadmap for transportation planning for cities, counties, regional planning organizations and the state.

The meeting in Spokane is the second of four local meetings that will be held around the state in 2025. Local meetings connect commissioners with communities and help them learn about the diverse transportation needs and priorities in cities and towns
around the state. The insights gathered shape policy recommendations the commission submits to the Legislature and the governor at the start of each legislative session.
