Virtual meeting takes place on May 13-14
OLYMPIA – The Washington State Transportation Commission will vote on adjusting the toll rate on the State Route 99 tunnel during its virtual meeting on May 13-14. The meeting will also focus on tools and technologies designed to improve safety and mobility.
The public is invited to attend the meeting, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, and from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, on Zoom. Those wishing to attend the meeting may register for the Tuesday and Wednesday sessions on the commission’s website. The meeting will also be streamed live on TVW.
Virtual public comment is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday. Written comments can be submitted via email to transc@wstc.wa.gov.
Topics to be covered at the May meeting include:
- Tolling on the SR 99 tunnel: Tolling policy on the SR 99 tunnel calls for toll rates to increase by 3 percent every three years, pending commission approval. The commission will vote on Tuesday on whether to approve the planned increase, which would go into effect on July 1.
- Planning for transportation in 2050: The commission will hear about a new tool developed by the University of Washington that models the impacts of transportation infrastructure enhancements in Central Puget Sound by 2050. The commission also will discuss finalization of the state’s 20-year transportation plan.
- Improving safety through truck alerts: Traffic congestion and poor stopping distance can contribute to truck collisions. The commission will hear about new technologies that help prevent crashes.
- Expanding highway lighting: The Oregon and Michigan Departments of Transportation will share their experience partnering with the private sector to deploy increased lighting on their highways to increase visibility and safety.
