Virtual meeting takes place Dec. 11-12
OLYMPIA – Accelerating the state’s transition to clean transportation, providing sustainable funding for the transportation system and improving roadway safety will be highlighted during the December meeting of the Washington State Transportation Commission.
The public is invited to attend the virtual meeting, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, on Zoom. Virtual registration for the Wednesday and Thursday sessions is available on the commission’s website. The meeting will also be streamed live on TVW.
Virtual public comment is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Thursday. Written comments can be submitted via email to transc@wstc.wa.gov.
Some of the topics to be covered at the December meeting include:
- Clean trucks: The commissioners will hear about the state Department of Ecology’s program to require truck manufacturers to sell an increasing percentage of new, zero-emissions vehicles starting in 2025.
- Road Usage Charge: An update on the commission’s research and testing of a per-mile system, and its stakeholder outreach efforts this year, will be provided.
- Generative AI safety solutions: Details about a pilot program undertaken by Kirkland-based INRIX using artificial intelligence tools to improve safety for vulnerable road users will be shared.
- Traffic safety: Plans by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission and state Department of Licensing to reduce deaths and serious injuries on the state’s roads will be discussed.
- Tolling for the Puget Sound Gateway Program: Results of a study analyzing possible toll rate options for the future State Route 509 and State Route 167 Expressways will be shared.
