Results of Advanced Tolling Technology Pilot – ACTION

The Legislature has directed the Commission to carry out a pilot to test advanced tolling technologies to assess opportunities for increased efficiency and expanded consumer services. The results of the pilot will be shared and potential recommendations to the Legislature will be reviewed.

Kick-off: Federal Research Program on Alternative Funding Approaches

The Commission was awarded a federal grant from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to continue its research around road usage charging and to explore other alternative funding approaches for transportation. An overview will be provided of the federal grant work program, which will include carrying out a road usage charge pilot with five partner states to flush out how interstate travel could be accommodated and revenue reconciled between states.

Extending the Martin Luther King Jr. Way Naming – ACTION

Community leaders have proposed extending the Martin Luther King Jr. Way naming from its current terminus in South Seattle to Renton’s city limits and the full length of State Route 515. This naming proposal was introduced in the 2025 Legislative Session under House Joint Memorial 4000.

Developing a Low-Income Toll Program

The Legislature authorized the implementation of a low-income toll discount program to provide relief to qualifying drivers. WSDOT will provide an update on its operational preparations, and the Commission will discuss considerations for a discounted toll rate and regulatory requirements. The low-income toll program will be available in late 2026, starting with the SR 509 and SR 167 Expressways.
