Preparing for Central Puget Sound 2050
Presenter: Bart Treece, Director, Mobility Innovation Center, University of Washington
By 2050, the population of the Central Puget Sound region is expected to grow by 1.5 million people to a total of 5.8 million. A holistic picture is needed for decision-makers to understand the tradeoffs and considerations for the future of Cascadia mobility. To this end, the University of Washington has developed a tool that can model and assess impacts of large infrastructure enhancements happening, or not. The Commission will be briefed on this work and its applications going forward.

Washington Transportation Plan – WTP 2050 – Update

The Commission is updating Washington’s 20-year statewide transportation plan, which provides the long-term road map for our state’s transportation system. As the update process nears its end, an overview will be provided on the public input collected to date, results of a representative statewide survey will be reviewed, and draft strategies will be discussed.

National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program Update

The future of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program, established under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, is uncertain. An update will be provided on the status of Washington state’s program and next steps.

Advancing Smart Roadways: A New Freight Mobility Solution

A briefing will be provided on a new program available in 13 states that gives commercial trucks alerts to sudden slowdowns and congestion. The alerts are made possible through partnerships between state transportation and enforcement agencies.

Route Jurisdiction Study – Final Findings & Recommendations

A route jurisdiction study was conducted by the Commission to assess the current state highway system and determine if changes are needed, as well as determine process improvements for how such changes could be proposed going forward. An overview of the draft final report will be provided, and recommendations will be finalized.

SR 99 Tunnel Toll Rates – ACTION

The Commission’s current toll regulation for the SR 99 Tunnel includes planned toll rate increases of 3 percent every three years. The next planned rate increase is scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2025, pending Commission approval.
