The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is conducting a test of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) powered solutions to improve safety for vulnerable roadway users. INRIX, as the lead vendor, will provide an overview of the study and findings to date.

Ferry Riders’ Opinion Group Summer Survey on WSF Performance

Department of Licensing Driver Safety Program Update
Presenter: Dan Cooke, Administrator, Licensing Endorsements and Traffic Safety Program, Washington State Department of Licensing
Washington state experienced 810 traffic deaths in 2023. This represents the largest number of traffic deaths in the state since 1990. During this time, all high-risk behaviors and factors contributing to fatal crashes have increased. An update will be provided on efforts to curb these trends, focusing on driver education training and programs that promote safe behavior.

Road Usage Charge Update

The Commission was directed by the 2024 Legislature to carry out a stakeholder outreach effort this year to gather input that will inform a possible 2025 legislative proposal on establishing a road usage charge program in Washington state. An overview will be provided on the results of the outreach, and an update will be given on the Commission’s research program, which wrapped up earlier this year.

2024 Transportation Attainment Report

An overview will be provided of the 2024 Transportation Attainment Report. Published by the Office of Financial Management in partnership with the Commission and WSDOT, the report provides information on the state’s progress toward achieving the transportation policy goals in law.

Puget Sound Gateway Program – Tolling Preparations for SR 509 & SR 167 Expressways

Results will be presented on a traffic and revenue analysis for various possible toll rate options under consideration for the Puget Sound Gateway Program’s SR 509 and SR 167 expressways under construction. The expressways are expected to start opening to the public beginning in the fall of 2025.

Washington’s Clean Truck Program

This panel will discuss the Clean Trucks Program administered by Department of Ecology, which requires truck manufacturers to sell and register an increasing percentage of new, zero-emission vehicles that are alternatives to diesel, starting with model year 2025.
