OLYMPIA – Gov. Chris Gregoire has announced the appointment of Jerry Litt to the Washington State Transportation Commission. His appointment is effective July 1, 2011.
Litt, a resident of East Wenatchee, has worked as a planning professional for his entire career, retiring from public service after 13 years as the Community Development Director for the City of Lacey. During his 10 years as the Douglas County Planning Director, Litt spearheaded Douglas County’s successful implementation of the Growth Management Act. During his career, he also has worked as a planner in Chelan and Douglas Counties, served as President of the Washington State Association of County and Regional Planning Directors, and sat as a board member for several planning organizations.
“Appointment to the Transportation Commission is an exciting opportunity to be actively involved with the broad spectrum of mobility concerns statewide, especially related to community and economic development,” said Litt.
Litt currently works part-time as a planning consultant for Alliance Consulting Group in Wenatchee. A native of Lincoln County, Litt is a 1973 graduate of Eastern Washington University.
The Transportation Commission is a seven member body of citizens appointed by the Governor for six-year terms that provides a public forum for transportation policy development. It reviews and assesses how the entire transportation system works across the state and issues the state’s 20-year Transportation Plan. As the State Tolling Authority, the Commission adopts tolls for state highways and bridges and fares for Washington State Ferries. The Secretary of the Washington State Department of Transportation and a representative from the Governor’s Office are ex officio members of the Commission.
