OLYMPIA - The Washington State Transportation Commission is holding five listening sessions across the state to gather comments from the public on the draft 20-year Washington Transportation Plan - WTP 2030. The information gathered at these sessions will help shape the final plan that will be submitted to the Governor and legislature in January 2011. WTP 2030 identifies long-term transportation funding and service needs, and system-wide challenges, along with recommended solutions and approaches aimed at moving our transportation network into the future.

“This plan sets the foundation for our state’s transportation system starting in 2011 and going out to 2030,” said Commissioner Chair Carol Moser. “It is important that we gather information from every corner of the state so this plan can address and truly represent the long-term needs of all. Washington’s transportation challenges vary widely, between urban and rural areas, and by geographic location in the state. Input from a variety of perspectives is needed to frame the choices our state’s leaders will make on how we travel, what we invest in and how we pay for those investments.”

Listening session locations and dates are:

  • Vancouver: Sept. 9, 9 am to 12 pm, WSDOT SW Region, 11018 NE 51st Circle
  • Yakima: Sept. 14, 9 am to 12 pm, Harman Center, 101 North 65th Avenue
  • Spokane: Sept. 23, 1 to 4 pm, Downtown Spokane Library, 906 W. Main Avenue
  • Everett: Sept. 29, 9 am to 12 pm, Everett Transit Station, 3201 Smith Avenue, 4th Floor
  • Bremerton: Sept. 30, 9 am to 12 pm, Norm Dicks Government Center, 345 6th Street

The plan is expected to be finalized in December 2010 and the Commission will then submit it to the Governor and the 2011 Legislature.

The public can view the draft WTP 2030 here on the Commission’s website. The Commission’s website also features an online public input tool that gives citizens the opportunity to comment on transportation issues and priorities. Comments will also be accepted by e-mail wtp2030@wstc.wa.gov or by mail at: P.O. Box 47308, Olympia, WA 98504-7308 through October 15, 2010. Additional information about the plan can be found on the WTP 2030 blog.
