OLYMPIA – The Washington State Transportation Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 20-21 in Olympia. The two-day meeting will consist of a series of panel discussions, short presentations including an update of the September 2009 Transportation Revenue Forecast, and scheduled action to name an overpass on I-405 after a worker killed in an adjacent roadway work zone and the naming of the new ferry serving the Port Townsend-Keystone route.

The meeting will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 20-21, at the Transportation Building on the Olympia Capital Campus, 310 Maple Park Ave. SE in Olympia starting at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, and 9:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Tuesday’s meeting will include a briefing on the development of outreach efforts for the Washington Transportation Plan by consultant Berk & Associates. The Commission also will receive a report on the sale of the naming rights for the state ferries.

The Commission plans to take action on a proposal to name the I-405 overpass at NE 116th Street as a memorial to Kollin Nielson, a Kiewit Construction employee killed in the work zone by a drunk driver on I-405 in Kirkland during the summer of 2007. The Commission also plans to act on a proposal to name the new ferry serving the Port Townsend-Keystone route the “Chetzemoka” after a Native American Chief of the S’Klallam Tribe.

Day two of the Commission meeting will feature a tolling work session that includes an overview of tolling studies underway and also reports on the progress of current tolling projects. The Washington State Transit Association and King County Metro will give a presentation on how transit agencies are responding to the economic downturn and reduced revenue. The Commission also plans to take action on a request to transfer ownership and maintenance of SR 908 to the city of Kirkland.
