OLYMPIA – As part of the Washington State Transportation Commission’s community outreach efforts, Transportation Commissioners will join with city and county officials to discuss transportation, tourism and ferry service in San Juan County.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 18 at the San Juan County Council Chambers hearing room, 55 Second Street, in Friday Harbor. The public is invited to attend and will have an opportunity to address Commission members during a public comment period scheduled for 3:15 p.m.

The meeting will consist of series of panel discussions and short presentations. Friday Harbor Mayor David Jones, along with San Juan County Council and Ferry Advisory Committee members, will discuss with the Commission the transportation needs for the San Juan Islands. Representatives of the Washington State Tourism Commission and the San Juan County Economic Development Council will make a presentation on tourism and economic development as they relate to transportation. The Commission will also hear an update on its long-term ferry funding study and will also hear the preliminary results of the Commission’s year-long ferry customer survey.

The Washington State Transportation Commission holds several meetings throughout the state each year to gain insight from local government, industry and citizens about transportation issues that affect their communities and region. This information helps the Commission to develop and implement a vision for transportation that reflects the policies, plans and priorities of the people of the State of Washington.
