OLYMPIA – As part of the Washington State Transportation Commission’s community outreach efforts, Transportation Commissioners will join with city, county, tribal and state officials next week in Bremerton to share information about local and regional transportation in Kitsap County and the Olympic Peninsula. During this meeting, the Commission will welcome its newest member, Latisha Hill, of Spokane. Hill is employed by Avista Utilities as a regional research and project manager and has experience in community development, urban and regional planning, public relations and economic development.
The meeting starts at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, at the Kitsap Conference Center at Bremerton Harborside, Puget Sound Ballroom D, 100 Washington Avenue, in Bremerton. The public is invited to attend the meeting and will have an opportunity to address Commission members during a public comment period scheduled for 3:45 p.m.
The meeting will consist of series of panel discussions and short presentations about current activities, future plans and needs for transportation at the local, regional and state level. A discussion of local transportation issues will be covered by Bremerton Mayor Cary Bozeman. Representatives from Kitsap, Clallam, Jefferson and Mason counties, the Suquamish and Port Gamble S’Klallam tribes, the Kitsap Regional Coordinating Council and the Peninsula Regional Transportation Planning Organization will speak with the Commission about regional transportation needs. On the state level, Washington State Department of Transportation Regional Administrator Kevin Dayton will lead the discussion on current and future transportation projects and plans.
The Commission will also discuss long range planning for ferries, hear updates on the its long-term ferry funding study and will also hear the preliminary results of the Commission’s year-long ferry customer survey.
The Washington State Transportation Commission holds several meetings throughout the state each year to gain insight from local government, industry and citizens about transportation issues that affect their communities and region. This information helps the Commission to develop and implement a vision for transportation that reflects the policies, plans and priorities of the people of the State of Washington.
