OLYMPIA –The Washington State Transportation Commission welcomes its newest member, Latisha D. Hill, of Spokane. Governor Gregoire appointed Hill to a six-year term that will expire in 2014.
Hill is employed by Avista Utilities as a regional research and project manager and has experience in community development, urban and regional planning, public relations and economic development. She currently serves as vice-president of the Inland Empire Chapter, American Planning Association, and as co-chair of the City of Spokane Mayor’s Sustainability Work Group for Transportation and Mobility. In addition, she is an active board member on an assortment of economic and community development organizations in Eastern Washington.
“Latisha’s business experience, her understanding of the role of transportation in economic development initiatives, and her natural ability to bring a fresh new perspective will enhance the Commission’s deliberations and outreach efforts,” said Commission Chair Dan O’Neal. “We look forward to having her join us.”
Hill’s first meeting as the newest Commissioner will be on Tuesday, September 16, when the Transportation Commission meets in Bremerton.
Hill attended Eastern Washington University where she earned a Masters in urban and regional planning; she also holds a B.A. in communications from Washington State University.
The Washington State Transportation Commission provides a public forum for transportation policy development. It reviews and evaluates how the entire transportation system works across the state and issues the state’s 20-year Transportation Plan. As the State Tolling Authority, the Commission sets tolls for state highways and bridges and fares for Washington State Ferries.
The Commission is a seven member body of citizens appointed by the Governor for six-year terms. Hill replaces Dale Stedman of Spokane who retired from the Commission in July.
