OLYMPIA – The Washington State Transportation Commission will join city, county, and state officials for a meeting to discuss transportation issues in and around Walla Walla County and southeast Washington.

This community outreach meeting starts at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 19, and will be held at the Port of Walla Walla’s Blue Mountain Room, Walla Walla Regional Airport, 45 Terminal Loop Road, in Walla Walla. The public is invited to attend the meeting and will have an opportunity to address Commission members during a public comment period scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The meeting will consist of series of panel discussions and short presentations about current activities, future plans and needs for transportation at the local, regional and state level. Representatives of the City of Walla Walla will share with the Commissioners their perspective of local transportation challenges and needs. On the state level, Region Administrator Don Whitehouse from the Washington State Department of Transportation’s South Central Region will lead the discussion on current and future transportation projects and plans. Other topics on the agenda include the Myra Road project, Valley Transit’s alternative fuel use, freight movement and the long-term transportation arterial plan for the City of Walla Walla.

The Washington State Transportation Commission holds several meetings throughout the state each year to gain insight from local government, industry and citizens about transportation issues that affect their communities and region. This information helps the Commission to develop and implement a vision for transportation that reflects the policies, plans and priorities of the people of the State of Washington.
