OLYMPIA - The Washington
State Transportation Commission
reelected Dick Ford (King
County) as Commission Chairman
at Wednesday's meeting
in Olympia. The Commission
also reelected Elmira Forner
as the Vice-Chairman. Both
terms are effective July
1, 2007 - June 30, 2008.
The Chairperson sets the
direction for the Commission
as it carries out roles
and responsibilities as
set by Governor and the
Legislature. Commissioner
Ford contributes port and
legal experience to the
Commission. He is senior
counsel of the international
law firm K&L Gates
LLP. He spent more than
thirty years in public
service, retiring in 1985
as Executive Director of
the Port of Seattle. Ford
was originally appointed
to the Commission back
in 2004 by Governor Gary
Locke and was recently
reappointed by Governor
Gregoire to a second six
year term.
Commissioner Ford has served
on a number of key boards
and commissions, including
the Governor's Growth Strategies
Commission, Washington
State Marine Oversight
Board, Citizen Advisory
Panel on Council Elections,
and the RTA Regional Outreach
Committee.
Commissioner Forner is
a former State Representative
from the 47th Legislative
District in southeast
King County and was
appointed to the Commission
in 2004 by Governor
Locke. Forner was minority
leader of the Trade
and Economic Development
Committee, a member
of the Transportation,
the Judiciary, and the
Rules Committee. She
currently serves on
the Wenatchee Valley
Transportation Council
and the North Central
Washington Regional
Transportation Planning
Organization.
The Washington Transportation
Commission is an independent
state agency whose seven
citizen members are appointed
by the Governor. The
Commission has authority
for setting ferry fares
and highway tolls. It
also prepares a 20 year
comprehensive transportation
plan based on policy
adopted by the Governor
and legislature. It develops
recommendations for transportation
program investments and
performance measures.
