OLYMPIA – Transportation
in Skamania County and
along the Columbia River
Gorge will be the focus
of attention as the Washington
State Transportation Commission
joins with city, county,
and state officials for
a meeting in Stevenson.
This community
outreach meeting starts at 9 a.m.
on Tuesday, May 15, and
will be held at the Skamania
Lodge, Adams Conference
Room, 1131 SW Skamania
Lodge Way, in Stevenson.
The public is invited to
attend the meeting and
will have an opportunity
to address Commission members
during a public comment
period scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
The meeting will consist
of series of panel discussions
and short presentations
about current activities,
future plans and needs
for transportation at the
local, regional and state
level. Local transportation
issues will be covered
by Stevenson city officials
and a member of the county
commission. A member of
the Southwest Washington
Regional Transportation
Council will provide an
overview of regional transportation
issues and challenges.
Other topics will include
freight systems on the
Columbia River, the future
of the Hood River Bridge
and the Gorge scenic area.
On the state level, Region
Administrator Don Wagner
from the Washington State
Department of Transportation’s
Southwest Region will lead
the discussion on current
and future transportation
projects and plans. In
addition, maintenance managers
from both the Oregon and
Washington departments
of transportation will
talk about winter highway
operations along the Columbia
River Gorge.
The Washington State Transportation
Commission holds several
meetings throughout the
state each year to gain
insight from local government,
industry and citizens about
transportation issues that
affect their communities
and region. This information
helps the Commission to
develop and implement a
vision for transportation
that reflects the policies,
plans and priorities of
the people of the State
of Washington.
