OLYMPIA
- Members of the Washington
State Transportation Commission
and the Joint Transportation
Committee will meet with
local and regional officials
in Ellensburg next week.
The meeting will provide
opportunities for two-way
sharing of transportation
issues and priorities for
South Central Washington
and statewide activities
that may affect the region.
The meeting will be held
on Wednesday July 26, starting
at 8:30 a.m. at the Ellensburg
Inn & Conference Center,
1700 Canyon Road, in Ellensburg.
The public is encouraged
to attend, and a public
comment period is scheduled
to begin at 4:30 p.m.
The meeting will consist
of a series of panel
discussions and short
presentations about current
activities, future plans
and needs for transportation
at the local, regional
and state level. Local
officials will review
the transportation issues
and needs for Ellensburg
and the surrounding region.
Washington State Department
of Transportation (WSDOT)
staff will present an
overview of the Washington
Transportation Plan Update,
and give a presentation
of WSDOT projects in
the area, including an
update of the I-90 Snoqualmie
Pass project.
Related to the Snoqualmie
Pass project, the Commission's
consultant for its statewide
Tolling Study will review
the results of their
modeling work. The modeling
provides a high-level
view of how tolling would
work on the pass and
the impact it would have
to both traffic flow
and revenue collection.
The consultant will also
give a summary report
on the Commission's recent
statewide public outreach
effort for their tolling
study. Public comments
and feedback were provided
through a survey that
was available at the
public open houses as
well as on the Commission's
Web site.
The Washington State
Transportation Commission
holds several meetings
throughout the state
each year to gain insight
from local government,
industry and tribal leaders
about transportation
issues that affect the
local communities and
the surrounding areas.
This information helps
the Commission to develop
and implement a vision
for statewide transportation
that reflects the policies,
plans and priorities
of the people of the
State of Washington.
The Joint Transportation
Committee (JTC) was created
during the 2005 Legislative
Session and its executive
committee is comprised
of the Chairs and ranking
members of the House
and Senate Transportation
Committees. The Committee
reviews and researches
transportation programs
and issues to better
inform state and local
government policymakers,
including legislators.
