OLYMPIA – On Wednesday of next week, the Washington State Transportation Commission will join with city, county, and other officials in Richland to discuss local and regional transportation needs in South Central Washington as part of its statewide outreach efforts. On Tuesday afternoon, Commissioners will tour local and state roadway projects, as well as a new rail loading facility as part of their visit.

The meeting starts at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, and will be held at the Courtyard by Marriott – Richland Columbia Point, 480 Columbia Point Drive, in Richland. The public is invited to attend the meeting and will have an opportunity to address Commission members during a public comment period scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

The Commission holds several “local meetings” each year in various cities throughout the state to gain insight about transportation issues that affect local communities and the region. These local meetings are also an opportunity for local and regional government officials to raise awareness of and elevate transportation concerns and issues to the state level. The Commission will summarize prominent local issues in an annual report to the legislature at the end of the year for their consideration.
